After I open up sertain drawings a window pops up saying either the file is in use or is read only. Thenn another window pops up saying Access Violation, Unable to open drawing. Any ideas why or how to solve it?

Have you tried the recover command?

Open a blank file in AutoCAD and typr "recover".
Point to your file from the browse window and click ok.

Maybe that might help.

I tried that and the same result occurred. These drawings are on a server so I checked with the IT folks and they said I have access to all the drawings. So they think it must be something with AutoCAD.

8) Try copying the file locally on to your c drive and see if it opens ok from there....if this fails...try xrefing the file into a blank new file.

Curious.... :?
Have tried using the backup *.BAK ??

Could be a fast PC and slow server.... see http://www.resourcecad.com/newsletter_archives/ ~ newsletter #3, The section entitled Read Only Problems
