I'm somewhat of a novice. :(
How do I get line labels to be in feet and inches format?
e.g. 6'1"
I pproperties, my line says 6' 1" yet when I label it i get 73.00'
Thanks in advance

HAVE YOU TRIED GOING TO THE PULL DOWN MENU "DIMENSIONS" AND GO TO "STYLE" AND THEN GO TO ANNOTATION AND THEN TO PRIMARY UNITS AND THEN CLICK UNITS AND THEN CLICK ON ARCHITECTURAL? I'M NOT SURE IF THAT WILL HELP BUT IF NOT TRY TYPING UNITS IN THE COMMAND LINE AND THEN PICK ARCHITECTURAL. AS YOU CAN TELL, I AM NOT A COMPUTER LITERATE PERSON BUT I HAVE BEEN USING 14 AND SOFTDESK 8 FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS. UNFORTUNATLY, NOT WITH ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

That's the way I had it set, so I'm still baffled about labeling.

When "drawing units" are set to Architectural, the drawing is 12 times bigger than what it would be in Decimal units.

AutoCAD considers 'One Architectural Inch' equal to 'one drawing unit', problem is 'One Decimal Foot' is equal to 'one drawing unit'. This is how AutoCAD allows for 12 inches in a foot.

Example:
Units set to Architectural: 1'6" = 18 acad unit = 18 Decimal Unit

Units set to Decimal: 1.5' = 1.5 acad unit = 1-1/2" Arch. Unit

One drastic solution is to scale your entire drawing down 1/12, but you don’t have to do that.

A simpler solution is to set your Decimal dimension "Measurement Scale Factor" to 1/12. That setting can be found under the "Primary Units" tab in your "Dim Style".

Notice that 73.00 divided by 12 = 6.08333 or 6'1" :wink:

Revision to my last post "originaly writen for Acad 2000's"

For R14 Dimensions Style:
Within DDIM
Click the "Annotation..." button
Click the "Units..." button
In the "Scale" box change the "Linear" field to 1/12

There's an evil monkey in my Autodad :D

I did what you suggested but still when I label a line that is 6'1" the label reads 73.00'

:? Well okay lets try this.

What is your UNITS, DIMLFAC, and DIMUNIT set to?
My R14 dimensions the line properly if my
UNITS = 4
DIMLFAC = 1
DIMUNIT = 6
And my line lists as such:
Command: LI LIST
Select objects: Other corner: 1 found

Select objects: LINE Layer: 0
Space: Model space
Handle = 49
from point, X= 0'-0" Y= 0'-0" Z= 0'-0"
to point, X= 6'-1" Y= 0'-0" Z= 0'-0"
Length = 6'-1", Angle in XY Plane = 0
Delta X = 6'-1", Delta Y = 0'-0", Delta Z = 0'-0"

Sounds like d/w's version of AutoCad is "very civil" :roll:

Keep working with him, VCD, sounds like he's still using decimal inches or something. Been so long since I set one of these up, I'm fuzzy on solutions.

:lol:
