help please i have been drawing with autocad r14 and have now moved up to autocad 2005 but have always had the same problem. i use the layout wizard to setup a print with a title block and border to my drawings but when i plot them on my a4 printer the title block is always off the page and i am unable to resize the title block to fit. can anyone give me any ideas on what to do please.

8) Begin by checking what plot area is set in the dialog, try setting it to extents
Tip : Make use of the preview feature so you see what you'll get if you ahead with the plot.

thanks for that gave it a go my drawing printed great no probs so i setup a layout to print my drawing again but this time i added a title block from autocads templates so that i can name and add infomation to my drawings did print preview and the top and left edges of the title block were over the edge of my a4 page. i have tried to resize the title block but have not been able to do so. would it be a better idea to draw my title block and borders and then my drawing inside this and just print my work this way or is there a way of resizing the template title block.

Hey, pinball. Get your fingers off the flippers for a minute.

Save your template file as a dwg file, or redraw if you like. Follow Eddie's suggestions as well.

I assume you have already set up a page and assume your plotter supports a4 page size. If it doesn't, then you may be able to define a special page size in the plotter set-up.

Plotter settings are done in the O/S, not AutoCad so if you try to change printer settings in AutoCad, the dumb thing will sit there and let you go through the motions and then nothing happens. So change it in the control panel, give it a name you can remember (like "plota4") and try again.

Check you plotter documentation to ensure that it supports a4 first.

If all else fails, you can always plot to a scale which is set up in the Acad plotting dialogue box. Maybe have to experiment a little to get the title block and image centered on the page. This is what I finally resorted to doing for 8-1/2 x 11 sheets in R14. Once I found the proportions that plotted correctly on the sheet, I put a node in the lower left and upper right-hand corner just outside the title block border at the right locations. Then when ready to plot, select window, pick lower left and upper right nodes, check with a preview then send it home.

Good Luck!
