Created title block xref ....
When I go to insert it and then attach it in paper space for an already
exist. dwg. it does not show up. Then if I zoom extents , find the very tiny image of my exist. dwg......(still no title block visible) ....then if I erase that image of the exist. dwg. and then zoom extents again, there's that pesky xref'ed title block, but of course the drawings gone...What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Roboe

Maybe this is it?
If the title block is in a "layout" (Tilemode=0) it won't xref into another drawing. Xref only refrences objects from a drawing that are in Model space (Tilemode=1).

Yes,
insert the titleblock as a xref inside Your drawing...

VCD & Exxit: Trying to follow your responses and come up with a big DUUUUHHHHHH!
VCD: Were you saying that the title block should have been created in model space?
Exxit: What do you consider "inside" a drawing?
Maybe this doesn't apply in '05 but I used to try to xref title blocks into layouts in '02; could do it once on the first layout but no luck after that. Wouldn't let me xref it into other layouts in the same dwg file. Went back to inserting it as a block. Didn't know what else to do and I was on a deadline......

X-refs only bring in model space entities so your title block should be in model pace in the original drawing.
you can then insert this as an x-ref into whichever model/layout tab you wish.

To answer your question: Yes.
A work around for your layout issue (if I remember correct) is to xref the title block into one layout, and then copy/paste it into each subsequent layout. OR... When starting a drawing set up a layout with all the appropriate xrefs. Then right click the layout's TAB and pick "Move or Copy", check the "Create a Copy". This will create an exact copy of your original layout, xrefs and all!

Thanks, VCD. That clears up a nagging little issue I've had for some time. Other people on other forums said it could be done but no one bothered explaining HOW to do it.

Thanks for so many responses....apparently a somewhat interesting issue..Thanks VCD ....that's kind of what I figured out yesterday...I found that if I do this it works like a dream...* make the xref in MS....*Go to the dwg., insert and attach that xref in PS * zoom extents and erase the little tiny image of the dwg....(seems to be the lower third of the field on the left every time).....* zoom extents again...there's that title block, border and all....* Use the edit ...windows...copy ...*undo a couple steps back till the original dwg is back......* paste the title block from edit...and *Voila!....it's the xref.
Thanks again....great forum here.
