How do you import shape files into a Autocad drawing? I want to bring in shape files from a GIS application into Autocad and I can't find a command that allows me to do that.

I have Autocad Map and I would like to know how you import shape files into this program. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I want to import a file called an Autocad compiled shape file. When I use the Autocad Map and the "import map file" command, I do not have the option of importing this file type. The only file type that is similar is denoted as ESRI shape file.
I also followed the instruction posted earlier that I should type shape, and I received the command enter shape name. I then entered the location and name of the file and nothing happened. Does anyone else have any suggestions they can offer?

Hi micah,
Sorry, I forgot to tell you to use "load" first. This will open a standard dialog box for openening files, and then after you select your file you can use the shape command.

The file will most likely have an .SHX extension so don't confuse it with a compiled shape font file, which carries the same extension.
Hope I didn't insult your intelligence.....
