Hello to everyone.
I had a couple of questions about the interview process when it comes to getting a job. Im getting out of the military in a couple of months and I have a couple of them ( interviews) lined up. :?:

How can I get the interviewers attention right from the get go about my sincere love for the art of designing? :!:

How can I make myself more presentable and appealing to the interviewers, besides being well dressed and a positive attitude?

I was wondering because I will have an interview with AROTEk soon and I wanted to be prepared. :)

Good luck with the interviews.....

Don't interview the first thing on Monday or the last thing on Friday if you can help it..

Be on time, sit up straight, dress well, bring a portfolio of your work, answer questions honestly (if you don't know something asked, say so), thank the interviewer when done, follow up with a call in a few days asking if they need any more information, express your appreciation for the time they took to talk to you, AND if they like you you might get on.

On another topic, you might wish to consider continuing your military career part-time in the guard or reserve. Probably the furthest thing from your mind right now BUT, I can say with some certainty that you may be one of those who, 25 or 30 years down the road, wished they had taken this advice. The bennies (especially supplemental health coverage) aren't too bad for those with over 20 years for retirement purposes.

Dont be nervous about the interview. If you dont get the job then you at least got some practice interviewing. Look the interviewer in the eye and be prepared. Have some of your favorite design topics fresh in your head so you will have something extra to talk about if needed. When I was in college we actually had practice interviews with the teacher and a video recorder. It helped a lot just to analyze yourself and to see how stupid someone looks if they say um every other word. And how people can glow but feel so nervous they think everyone is laughing at them. Get a buddy to help with this I think it was good. I got call backs from the only two real interviews I have ever been on straight out of college for interior design. I got hired at one of those firms 1.5 years ago. I normally have anxiety but for some reason when your talking about something that you love so much like design its easy.

I just went to a new job. Been here for now 4 weeks....
And there's an intern there who asked me about interviewing....

I gave him my breif experience ....
I applied to 12 places and got 6 interviews. I landed 5 offers.

I basically went it ... told what I could do and what I couldn't. Honesty is the only way to do this.....

I might have emblished 1 or 2 talents but nothing I couldn't rise to the occasion. I little arrogance but not enough to rub anyone the wrong way.
Laughed at anyone jokes and made freindly eye contact not some cowboy stare down....

Anyway ...
Had 5 choices to make and made one...

So that's my actual experience now 2 months old.....
When I landed my job and wait some time before starting.

be prepared to show your talents in a CAD on the interview... when i hired CAD people i had them do a basic test - just to see where they were in the learning curve so to speak.

Hey, Danger.....Look at the date of the post just before yours.....maybe by now we should be asking: "How's it going?"
