What tips would the more experienced architects here offer the young architects for learning what they need to know for the US EXAM for a RA?

What should he/ she being aware of during their working career since they need 3 years of experience and follow the NCARB system?

Flash cards or the books or the pricey classes?

just curious.

Guess I haven't been paying attention lately; just saw this post. :(

It's been several years since I took the NCARB version of the exam but compared to the previous one, it made much more sense.

It will be more difficult to take the exam if one's experience has been devoted to only a narrow aspect of the entire spectrum of project development. If one has spent the majority of their time only designing or only preparing working drawings, some portions of the exam will be difficult to accomplish due to lack of familiarity with concepts presented.

Experience-wise, I believe it's best to try to acquire some experience in as many areas of the development of a project as possible because that's the way the exam is structured. You start with concepts and go through design development and then through construction documents.

If your experience hasn't been diverse enough, you may struggle with certain areas.

Suggest you obtain a set of NCARB study guides so you can see what areas are included. Doesn't have to be a current set. If you know someone who has taken the exam recently, they might loan the guides to you.

Hope this helps, and good luck on the exam!
