change color of an xref

I want to change the color of an existing xref in a drawing without changing the actual drawing itself. For example, I have a building drawing (drawing a) and I have a furniture layout drawing (building b). I want to open drawing a and insert drawing b as an xref. Once I have done so I want to change its color to gray for example. Not just parts of drawing b... all of it to gray. All of this without exploading drawing b.

Change all the layer colors to grey for the xref's layers; you'll get a grey xref. Except items which had color set to "by entity" rather than "by layer". If VISRETAIN is set to 1 your layer settings will remain even if you reload the xref.
