Please Help! am using autocad LT 98, moved on to new PC, using XP. All is fine until I "save to cd-rw" will only save as "read only" format. Tried all usual ways of saving (as I did with floppy disks). Coping software is "Roxio", came bundled with new PC, I am now getting desperate!!!
Cheers,,,,, :(

Why are you saving to CD-RW ?
cd-rw are written as read only...if you need to overwrite what is on the cd-rw then you erase what's on it first.

Saving as "read-only" is the default mode for most OEM cd burner software shipped with PCs. They do this to encourage you to buy the full-featured version.

No big deal with "read-only"; load the file from the CD-rw and right click the file, select properties and change the file status.

A nice alternative to a cd-RW is a "thumb-drive", a little memory stick that you plug into a USB port. The O/S reads it as a removable hard drive and you can read and write from thhem with reasonable speed. Capacities from 64meg to 1 gig are available, depending on how much you want to spend. They are the ultimate in portablility.

The object of saving to cd-rw, is to enable the drawing to be edited at a later date, possibly with another pc.
I'll try "csiarch's" option and hopefully return with a positive reply.
loads of thanks to all

One more thing to consider about CD discs: Spend the money to buy name brand CD media. If you've read any news items in the tekkie magazines lately, there have been many instances of discount CD media turning to mush after a while. :(

A little extra money spent on high quality media can save many headaches later on.

And by the way, make two copies while you're at it just for a little extra insurance.

YOU CAN OPEN THE CD-RW IN EXPLORE AND SAVE IT WHERE YOU WOULD NORMALLY SAVE A FILE. WE USE ACAD LT 97 AND THAT IS EXACTLY HOW WE RETRIEVE OLDER FILES. HOPE THIS HELPS.
