.DGN TO .DWG ACADMAP

I have ACADMAP LDD 2002, I'm trying to import .DGN files through ACADMAP using TOOLS, IMPORT, DGN FILE and I only get pieces. It seems that all the stuff I've read says the Microstation user must jump through flaming hoops to get the .DGN file to an importable file. Do I need to contact said user and have them create polylines and all that other stuff?

You might to ask the user to "DROP" all their elements.
And please "COMPRESS" the design file.


DROP = EXPLODE
COMPRESS = PURGE

Hopefully that should do the trick.
