This is an F.Y.I. topic.

Just got done spending the better part of 2 days shoulder to shoulder with my reseller trying to add 512 meg of RAM to my machine. Story is as follows:

Was having difficulty closing out a 2002 drawing with six layouts and about 40 total viewports. Sometimes took up to 45 minutes to close a drawing. Running 1.6 ghz machine w/AMD Athalon processor and 512 meg of RAM. Obviously need more RAM to keep hard drives from spinning themselves crazy trying to cache all the viewport information.

Took machine in to reseller, popped in a 512 meg ram chip and rebooted. Came up in safe mode. Not good!

Took existing chip out, replaced it with another 512 megger; same result. Reseller decided that motherboard was at fault. Ordered replacement motherboard (board was under warranty).

"New" board came in, was installed and found to be dead; second board ordered. :x

Second board tested on bench before installing (reseller is learning!); everything normal.

Installed tested board in machine w/my peripherals attached; came up in safe mode. :x

After much head-scratching, problem was outdated video driver! Should have NOTHING to do with adding ram but it did.

Video drivers updated and everything back to normal -go figure

Just thought I would pass this along....file it under computer oddities.....in the Twilight Zone.....d-d-d-ding! d-d-d-ding!
