I wish the new releases would just stop!
They should make them like a patches.
This way we avoid the unstalling and reinstalling.
No more different DWG files for each release.
No need to REDO profiles or other customized tools.

And most of all..... LESS $$$$$$

Ahhh ... dreaming ...

While I'm dreaming here....
Maybe patches could be games ..... tooo!!!!!
Might as well add modules to add onto our computer like PlayStation 2..... :P

Architech: I sense you've been standing too close to the space heater again and the fumes have affected your brain.

Keep in mind that the ONLY reason Autodesk sells new numbered releases is they can CHARGE for them.

Yeah ... I realize they're trying to make a buck $$$$ ....
aren't we all.....

But my dream here is to lessen the customization aspect from version to version ....

I figured with a patch .... profiles and other personlized settings would stay in tact.

..... in the end it's just a "wish" ..... :? ... for the next release ....

I wish they'd not release the next "Version" and just spend some time making the core of AutoCAD better. I've never once opened the layer manager and said "Wow, this thing is really handy!" My opinion of it has actually worsened since upgrading to 2005.

In life it is better to do a few things really well,
Than to do hundreds of things mediocre.

I just made that up!

It's a known fact that Autodesk relies on customer feedback to ferret out the bugs in every new version.

As long as Autodesk continues in its role as the "Walmart" of cadd software, little is going to change.....

One of you geniuses is going to have to write a program (call it citizen cadd or usercadd) that is open ended, imports/exports DWG formats seamlessly, runs on Linux, Mac O/S and or MS O/S and sells for about $595.

Then.....try to get the core of ultra-comfortable Autodesk customers to try it!

So what you're saying is? What we need is Linux-CAD!
:D :D :D

I can't figure out how to do "strike throughs" on bbcode, so grey will have to do.

"Walmart of Cadd? what are you talking about? Have you never written a check for autocad out of your own pocket ? Turbocad would be the Walmart of Cadd! I wish Autocad had "Everyday low Prices" and Reasonable Pricing!

My 2 cnts worth - everyone now talks about Linux; But that is a cut down version of the real OS which is UNIX (Linux is cut down so it works on DOS).

UNIX beats the pants off anything that Microsoft have ever put out.

HERE HERE, After being a SUN GEEK for years when I was still working in the IT World, I would have to say that outside of the cost Factor, Solaris is the BEST O/S ever on the Market. but Linux is just a toy! I Really want to entrust my Data and Productivity to an OS written by comity :) Linux also suffers from the same Problem as Sun Solaris ans System V Unix, and that would be a real lack of Quality Software. and Hardware Support! until there is more universal support for apps like Acad,3D studio, Photoshop ect... Linux will just be a geek toy. Linux is more proof that you get what you pay for, and it is Priced accordingly!

after reading through this article i agree with pretty much everything said. i think it might work out better for auto desk to instead offer their customers differnt plans. maybe when you buy acad2009 you can pay an option that will allow you 1 free upgrade, to be used when you choose. perhaps a monthly fee that will allow you to get newer versions free of charge. as was already said, they are the walmart of cad, and will only do what think will make the most money. i think a plan that involves them making the cash they want, and being easier on consumers is feesible, just not sure exactly what it is.
