I am wondering if anyone else has had a problem with duplicates in reference files from using the ref-edit command in LDD 2004...
I have had insane entity duplication in one of the reference files itself (166 copies of text unto itself!) that seems to grow with the time each entity has been in the drawing. I attributed this to a corrupt file which "audits" & "recovers" with no errors and continues the corruption even after being "w blocked" into a new drawing. I locked all the elements in the drawing in an effort to stop the duplication and now receive the error "could not 'wirte' to layer p1-sewer' twice every time the drawing is opened. I also receive this error when using the command "select current alignment'!!!
I have also had reference files duplicate themselves in the sheet file and even somehow merge a copy of itself into the paperspace. I tried deldup in 2004 (the utility under map tools) but it also does not recognize the duplicates. The only thing that helps is the express tool overkill but only if I select each entity group duplication separately. I jumped into 2005 to use deldup and it deleted everything except a few lines in the paperspace. 2005 gave me a reading of 15 duplicates of a reference file in a sheet file drawing where 2004 gave me a reading of 1 duplicate in the same drawing). Is the translation between these versions really so seamless?
I have preached never to attach, always overlay. Here is another anomaly that occurs. A while ago, when a co-worker couldn't see the supposed overlayed xref, we clicked on the attach button in the xref manager dialog box to find the attach radio button in the attach dialog box with a dot in it although it read overlayed in the initial xref manager. When we switched it back to overlay in the attach dialog box and reloaded it, the xref then appeared.
Now however, everytime I open the drawing and check the xref manager, although it says overlay, when i click the attach button and go into the dialog for attach, the attch radio button is on. I reset it back to overlay but as soon as i exit the drawing and reenter, it is set back to attach in the attach dialog box (although in the xref manager, it shows as overlayed.)
I read that 2005 has a variable 'xreftype' which i thought might be the problem (of it switching to attach) but when I jumped into 2005 to check that variable, it was set to one which means always overlay.
We use refedit and the option Demand load xrefs with the enabled with copy option, visretain set to one and "allow other users to refedit drawing". I am grabbing at straws trying to reach a conclusion and any advise would be greatly appreciated. All the files are part of the project (associated), so that is not the problem...
The duplication of the xrefs in the sheet file and the copy of the xref in the paperspace itself has dumbfounded me. It was always my understanding you could only reference the same xref into a drawing once (unlike Microstation) but here are copies of the same xref not only in the model but also in the paperspace "space". I bound the xrefs to the drawing as blocks and it now duplicates the bound blocks in the sheet file. I finally had to give up on using xrefs/blocks in this project because no matter what I do (refedit or not), the xref/block duplication continues...
