you can open a DWG file directly in 3D Studio

hmmm... actually starting 3ds max v6 up can actually import .DWG/.DWF file directly to its environment...

another way to convert (export) the cad files to max is to export it as .3ds file... export it either by layers, colors or objects it depends on your preference...
