Does anyone know why it takes an extraordinary amount of time to pull my layers down in my regular drawing window? All of my extraneous layer filters have been deleted, but ACAD still takes a long time to pull the scroll menu down and also to load the layer dialogue box. Is there a quick fix for this or is this a bug in the software? Thanks in advance and Happy new year everyone.

Well there was patch/hotfix realeased for 2005 for just this problem.

I tried to find it for you on autodesk.com, but it took more than 30 seconds and then my ADD kicked in. :)

Try searching autodesk.com for this file = AecLayerManagerEx.dll

Here's the AutoDesk documentation I have on it...

Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005; Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Tablet PC, Windows 2000
Autodesk Building Systems 2005; Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Tablet PC, Windows 2000

While working in Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005, Autodesk Building Systems 2005 or Autodesk Land Desktop 2005, you find that the Layer Manager opens very slowly. The updated version of the AecLayerManagerEx.dll file addresses this issue and allows Layer Manager to open without a delay.

Use the following process to install the updated AecLayerManagerEx.dll file:
1. Download the AecLayerManagerEx.zip file and extract the updated AecLayerManagerEx.dll file to a temporary location.
2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005" directory.
3. Rename the existing version of the AecLayerManagerEx.dll file to AecLayerManagerEx.old.
4. Copy the new version of the AecLayerManagerEx.dll file to the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005" directory.

NOTE: If you are working with Autodesk Building Systems, the AecLayerManagerEx.dll file will be located in the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Building Systems 2005" directory and if you are working with Autodesk Land Desktop, this file will be located in the "C:\Program Files\Land Desktop 2005" directory.

VCD: Your response is MUCH more complete and germain than responses to a similar query on the Autodesk forums. Better watch out! They'll make you a "faciltator"

AutoDesk wouldn't know what to do with someone who has mediocre customer service skills. Not that I'm bitter... oh wait, yes I am.

***A good portion of the purchase price of AutoCAD 2005 came out of our year end bonus***
