View Full Version : blocks
I made a block of something that I use often so I could just import that when I need it but when I try it won't import it and there is an error message that says "block references itself". Any ideas?

The drawing you want to insert as a block should not be a block within a drawing, just a drawing. Upon inserting it, it becomes a block insert. To remedy, go explode the block in the drawing you're trying to insert.
I know this could be worded better, but I hope you get the picture.....

Almost CarlB
In the drawing you want to insert as a block is already block with the same name as the drawing.
So you can use blocks in it, just not with the same name.
CarlB -> perhaps you meant to say the same, then i didnt say anything and should learn better english.

Thanks. Now I can take the cyanide cap out of my mouth.

Wow! Seems Don has a rather low stress tolerance threshold (just kidding!).
Don: By recognizing that blocks are the key to efficient cadd use, you have made a quantum leap as a user. If you continue along this path, you can throw the pill away; you'll never need it!

Just be sure to maintain your block library as it can get out of hand easily.

AMEN! to that Eddie! :D
Don: If not already aware, the Construction Specifications Institute, Inc. has numerical classifications for most building materials. These numbers are used in preparing construction specifications, which are intended to complement construction drawings. More info is at csinet.org.
My blocks, (estimated at about 110mb) are organized in folders using CSI numbers as folder names. This is the way I understand and remember where things are...point is as Eddie recommends....organize them so the YOU remember where things are. Further recommendation: Do it NOW or else you'll most likely not do it until it's out of control.
