Is it possible to draw cam profiles in autocad and if possible then how does one go about it

Since nobody else answered you...
Please excuse my ignorance: When you say "cam profiles" do you mean a cross-section or cut-away drawing of something like a cam shaft for push rods in a combustion engine.
Anyway if that’s what you’re asking for, then yes AutoCAD is a great tool for drawing 2d technical drawings. If you’re looking to create complicated 3d models of machine parts then you’ll want to look into add on software like Mechanical Desktop. That’s not to say plain vanilla AutoCAD can’t generate 3d models, it’s just a little clumsy on its own.
Be aware that one copy of AutoCAD 2005 is more than $2000.

Saurav: Just so you're not led astray, AutoCad will NOT generate cam profiles on it's own. You must know the basics of cam design; AutoCad can generate a rather precise drawing if told to do so by a knowlegeable user.
