Ah! I think we have another holisitic user trying to cleanse his drawings of "impure" objects......I'm sure this will soon be followed by a request to get rid of the "standard" text style and layer zero

Ask yourself: Where will AutoCad place the origin points of dimensions if you somehow manage to get rid of the Defpoints layer?

Accept the fact that certain constants in AutoCad are there for good reasons....then deal with it!

wmics: I'm certain that is not the answer you wanted to see. I would suggest you also search on your topic on the Autodesk forums for other answers.

If the objection is being able to see the points, remember that in dimensioning, if dimension nodes are accurately placed (i.e., on an edge or corner of the object being dimensioned) you seldom will see them anyway.

F.Y.I.: I include nodes in block objects I create because a node is easier to select that other osnap options, especially when trying to select one object in a crowded area. The "node" osnap icon is easier to pick out on a screen full of objects. This is just a preference developed from experience but something you might want to think about.

well I just took my drawing and copy-clipped it into a fresh one that didn't already have the layer. That's how you get rid of the defpoints layer!

If you NEVER put a dimension on this drawing, it will stay as-is.

If you NEVER insert a block containing an object on the Defpoints layer, it will stay as-is.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Why MUST people delete the defpoint layer ?!?!?

Is takes no room, it doesnt eat bread ...

Leave it where it is, it isnt bothering AutoCAD ..

haha

Why cant i delete the Model space will be the next question .. i only print out the paperspace ...

please accept AutoCAD needs stuff to store its standard stuff...

greetings YosSa

wmics: In retrospect, it might have been appropriate to state why you wanted to get rid of the defpoints layer in your initial post.

On the other hand, you figured out a way to do it on your own, which is a growth factor for you.

You may find that responders on this site are a little more "plain spoken" than on others but they mean well.....

Good Luck!
