The company I work for is considering purchasing V.2005 AutoCAD. But, first we have a question. . . . . In AutoCAD 14 you could save a layer state & a "current" layer in that state. In AutoCAD 2000, 2002, they took this feature away. Please tell me. . . . Did they bring the feature back to 2005? :D

Well, 2005 saves a layer "snapshot" in the layer dialogue box. BUT, it doesn't seem to set a specific layer current.

What does the "snapshot" do? 8)

Do you have to save layer states a different way, now?

If you saved Layer States in 2002, will they automatically go to 2005? Layer states saved in AutoCAD V.14 did not go to 2002.... :(

Snapshot is a new button in the layer dialogue box that saves a "snapshot" of your current layer settings. It nothing special, you just give it a name, and when you want to restore a layer setup you just click 'restore'. It's similar to express tools LAYER MANAGER

If you saved Layer States in 2002, will they automatically go to 2005? Layer states saved in AutoCAD V.14 did not go to 2002....
I don't know much about this, I jumped from R14 to 2005.

If I have 25+ drawings in A.CAD 2002 with existing layer states, can they "rollover" to 2005? I don't want to have to re-create all the layer states. There are multiple drawings, and some have 50+ layer states.

Also, my original question was not answered. Did they bring back the feature (like A.CAD 14) that has the current layer state current when you turn on that layer state again? :? Does this make sense - too wordy?

Thanks for the help. :D

Sorry, I think I need to re-word my question...

I know I can still save layer states. My question is: In that layer state, can I save a current layer? .... When I turn layers off & on, current & not-current, then go back to the layer state I created, will the layer that I made current (when I created the layer state), be current again? Or, do I have to make sure that I pick the layer that I want to be current?

The architect & myself tend to draw on the wrong layer after we've picked a layer state that we saved. For him, he remembers in AutoCAD 14 that when you pick your layer state it has the "current" layer on, that you made "current" when the layer state was created... For me, I have a layer "current", but am actually working on a different part of the drawing, then the part that has a layer on & current.

I hope this is not too confusing. Mainly, I want to know about the layer being current..... :) sorry about the confusion....

Okay apparently i'm confused, too. What command and/or sorftware are you using to save your layer states.

If you are using the express tools Layer Manager (command 'LMAN') then yes, 2005 will restore the the layer you had current when you save the Layer state. Also, 2005 does rollover old "Layer Manager" states.

The only reason I bring up Layer Manager again is because that's what was in R14's bonus tools.

If I'm still not being helpfull, please let me know.
