does anyone else experience problems with associate hatches "stealing" polylines?
if i hatch inside a p.line that is on layer A with the hatch on layer B the p.line is commonly moved to the same layer as the hatch, this is very bothersome.

No I haven't run across stealing hatches yet..
.
I do notice that in the hatch dialog box, if you check "retain boundaries" it will draw a boundary over the existing one, on the same layer as the hatch.

i am still having issues with my associative hatching. it is SO annoying.
if i select an associative hatch it ALSO selects the boundary object. because of this in order to HATCHEDIT any hatch (if its associative) i have to zoom in far enough that i cannot see any part of the boundaries. if i match properties from one hatch to another it also preforms the MA on the boundary object, as was my original post.
i've been not using the associative hatch because of this, but i know its killing me in terms of time spent doing crap i dont need too.
on my coworkers computers this isnt happening, it has to be a system setting. they all use 99% default options, keybinds ect. so it must be some sort of grouping option or something.
any advise would be swell, as this is not only driving me nuts/pissing me off, but its also hurting my bottom line (time spent on drawings)
i'll be happy to upload any screen caps. or whatever, just holla

if i click the hatch it grabs the boundary also, if i use an open selection box it only grabs the hatch, but then if i try to double click to edit the hatch the action of clicking it grabs the boundary.

Your different setting may be the PICKSTYLE variable, yours is probably set to 2 or 3.
PICKSTYLE
Type: Integer
Saved in: Registry
Initial value: 1
Controls the use of group selection and associative hatch selection.
0 No group selection or associative hatch selection
1 Group selection
2 Associative hatch selection
3 Group selection and associative hatch selection
