setting up a drawing

I'm new to AutoCaD, and are having trouble with setting up the "units" field.
I'm wanting to use feet and inches, the only measurements shown are in inches. Also, when I use the dimesion function, those measurements are in inches, too. I'm working on a drawing that the measurements are 50 feet long - thats a lot of inches!

Where am I going wrong, and how do I "fix" my problem?

I did that, but I'm still lost. The measurements are still in inches, and I'm wanting to display in feet and inches. How do I, and what do I have to do to accomplish this?

IAn example - I want to draw a house plan, and don't want to have alll my measurements in inches. This is what is confusing me

1. <type> DDIM <enter>

NEW (name it test)

2. Go to tab Primary units
change the unit format.
