I have a small sample of a Hatch Pattern from an older version. Is it possible / how do I to insert this into my existing hatch patterns, so I can use for more drawings? Any feedback is helpful.

The ACAD.pat file in C:\Program Files\AutoCAD(version)\Support\ contains all of the hatch patterns.

Before you do anything, make a backup (copy) of your current ACAD.pat file to some place like "My Documents". That way if you mess something up you can just put the copy back.

You should be able to just copy/paste hatches from the old autocad's .pat file to the new autocad's .pat useing note pad.

The text for a single hatch pattern can be a couple of lines or a couple of pages, but they all kind of look like this.

*12INRUN2,12 INCH RUNNING BRICK
0, 0,0, .5,.25, .95,-.05
0, 0,.2, .5,.25, .95,-.05
90, 0,0, .25,.5, .2,-.3
90, .95,0, .25,.5, .2,-.3

VCD: You can copy the definition to the acad.pat file using either notepad or wordpad (depending on the version of the O/S being used) BUT unless the accompanying SLB file is installed as well you won't get a picture in the dialgoue boxes. No big deal but some people don't do well with remembering file names.....

I was told that 2002 can generate the thumbnail on its' own.

VCD: Could be...I'll have to check this out. This response more pleasant than your retort over in '04....

V.C.D.: You were correct about '02 creating a "slide" of the pattern in the dialogue box. The fact that you mentioned this resulted in my learning something new.

('')

Thanks.

Q: Did Ducky manage to get his hatch pattern to work? He never came back....
