Ideas to get this place rocking!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

OK so we have a great community here and it's been a while since we had a brainstorm on good ideas for the site. I do get suggestions from a few of you which i do my best to honour but I'm sure theres loads more ideas.

I want to make sure this place is the best it can be so no matter how extravagent the idea just post it because even if we can't do it, we can just laugh at you!

For instance... everyone happy with the forum layout, style, size? Anyone think we should have a monthly newsletter which we all contribute to?

Layout is great, what i would like if from people to post a LISP, VBA file or just a dwg file and let other judge about it, or lets make a file better by sharing the knowledge we all have ...

Cadman: Posts and replies posted here show up in the Autodesk forums and vice versa without Autodesk being able to do anything about it.

Honestly, I read some of the dumbest posts on those forums. There are a lot of people looking for answers to questions they can't solve but there are also people who could find their answers just by using on-line help. There was one person who wanted to know if he could eliminate the F1 key because he kept hitting it by mistake instead of the ESC key. Another wanted to know if there was a way to get rid of the nodes which spoiled his otherwise "pristine" drawings.

Autocad ain't Burger King and you can't always have it your way!

Yeah it would be nice if we could easily organize and pass around our brain power. I think what YosSa is getting at is we need an easy way to work in a collaborative effort. Something with the fluidity of a chat room for quick communication with but the ability to leave a locked post (drawings, VBA, LISP) for everyone to view and work with. It would probably require the ability to review the old chat comments so that people could look at it hours later (over seas) and leave their own comments.

Maybe the Moderators could just have periodic announcements days ahead of time.

I PM'ed this idea to CADMAN a few days ago...

What if there was a monthly or weekly, CAD contest. Some kind of contest with odd constraints (like: draw your own face in 3d using only circles) and all of the members could vote on the submitted drawings for a few days? Maybe the votes leader could get their name emblazoned in lights on the Autocadeverthing.com forum home page, and all the bragging rights of course. Or how about little trophy icons in their profile box, like the blue boxes for their member rank.

Would you guys be interested in something like that? Not that you'd stand a chance aginst me and my lightning quick C/-\D skillz, yo.

hmmm OK I'll have a think on the file posting/rating/help system

As for the competition I am more than happy to put this together, anyone have some ideas to kick this off? We need real wacky ideas I think to stop people using previous work, everything must be originals. If everyone posts some ideas I could choose and put together some pages on it and then launch it.
