Removing Layer Key Styles

For our MEP group, there are a lot of layer key styles that we don't want to have in our drawings and would like to remove them. For many of them we can just hit 'Remove' in the Layer Key Styles Properties window, but there are many where the 'Remove' option is greyed out. Is there any way we can change this, as our MEP group has no need for most of them that relate to architectural layers.

Are they hard-wired in from AutoDesk or can we delete them?

I believe someone wrote a LISP or something, right?
