I repeatedly get a message similar to this:-

AutoCAD Error Aborting
FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Exception 26f952h

and the programme closes.

It will occur, say, when I try to mirror image a specific section of drawing. It will occur again if I repeat the operation after re-opening the programme. However, it is possible to do the operation on other sections of drawing with out problem.

This started happening when I began using AutoCADR14 on a new laptop with MS Vista. My old laptop - using XP - never had this problem.

Can anyone explain what is happening and why and, of course, how I can prevent it?

Unfortunatley Vista and Rev 14 are not compatable.

Its not even supposed to be compatable with 2000; although I have heard that some people have managed an install of 2000 on vista without problems.

A few people have been having problems with Vista and AutoCAD; try putting VISTA in the search above and looking at their posts.

I checked earlier posts as you suggested it appears to be a compatibility problem. One suggestion is to have Vista to emulate an earlier version of Windows. I will try this when I can find out how to do it!

Thank you.

According to the Chicago Tribune's computer guru Jim Coates, he claims that most older programs will usually run on Vista by either running them in administrator mode or telling .

Haven't tried it my self but just passing this along

Still running XP and 98SE on my machines so only know Vista from what I've read or been told.

Rev 14 is getting a bit long in the tooth now; it may be time to bite the bullet (and wallet) and get a newer Acad version.
