Is it possible to increase the maximum number of layouts allowed. I am currently at (256) layouts, but I need it increased to approximately 330.

Holy smokes that's a lot of layouts! How long does it take to open that drawing?
I'm pretty sure you can have as many layouts as you want but their tabs don't display after that magic 256 number you're hitting. It's going to be like autocad 12 days, but you can use the "Layout" command to set current layouts after #256.

Thank you for your reply. The file opens rather quickly, so there is no problem there. I think I will open a seperate file to create the additional tabs. I am using paper and model space, so I have another question that maybe you can assist with. If I do all my udates on the main file, and then merge it into the second file will it only alter the model space without altering the paper space and named tabs?

Whether you xref, insert, or paste the main file into the second files paper space, it won't modify layouts.
Blocks might be a little tricky depending on how you merge the drawing though.
