I've been trying to do survey lines from a legal description and have not had any success.

I chandeg "FORMAT", "UNITS" to ("DECIMA","SURVEY","INCHES")
but still no luck
my first enry was "LINE" then "0,0.
That started the line. My next entry was @85.725<s61d36'55"
This was to be a line 85 feet 7-1/4 inches in a South 61 gedrees, 36 minutes, 55 seconds.
It did not plot......what am I doing wrong..HELP!!!!!

The bearing needs to be either southeast or southwest. After the " for seconds you need an E or a W. Also you should set units to feet. if you set to inches, use a foot mark (') after a distance entry.

In addition to CarLB's answer, you should try to keep in mind:

From start point, which way does the line go? (N, W, S, E) This is the first letter CarlB mentioned.

From the base direction of the line, does it deviate left or right of the base direction? That determines what your ending letter should be.
Hope this generic description helps.

Thanks guy's.....Your input got it corrected. I also had an error with my limits. Way to small.

Now I just got to get these property lines to close........

Hah! Good luck with that (closing)!

I was transferring survey data to a client's drawing a few years back...got all the way around the perimeter to the last leg....looked on the surveyor's drawing...no swing angle, no distance given...called the surveyor...got a hold of the field guy/draftsman..."Oh yeah , I remember that one"....the leg went through lots of bushes and trees so we just guessed!.....ARRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

Even surveyors throw it in the "too hard" box sometimes....
