How do you make it so a layer is unpurgable even though it is not being used. I do not want the layer locked in the drawing, only in the variables.
Thanks

 without locking the layer...

Would care to FREEZE the layer?

Or place a "point" somewhere on the drawing using that layer...????

The point is a decent idea, but would require my people to do "extra work" to get the standard layers to not purge thus negating my need. I have tried playing w/ some of the variables but to no avail.
I've been creating some standards for my company including a whole new palette platform w/ all blocks in the "new", "demo" & "existing" layers ie:
M-HVAC-DUCT
M-HVAC-DUCT-EXIST
M-HVAC-DUCT-DEMO
I want all 3 layers in each dwg & make them unpurgable. Is this possible???

I would put the "point" on 0,0
in the ACAD.dwt file
This way it always shows up in everyone's machines.

And no one ever look for the points... unless the point style is changed to an "X"... then it will stand out...
:baby:

Aside from that...
cant think of another idea....

Upon attempting to purge in random dwg's I get the following "reason" why: Layers 0 and DEFPOINTS cannot be purged. It will not tell me why or how to make them so they can be purged. There is nothing on these layers but they are CAD Standard layers. There must be a setting for this that I cannot find.

yes...
You can't purge 0 or defpoints....

But you can right click and delete defpoints... in the layer manager dialog box.

But ZERO is there to stay....
unless its a translated file... where the ZERO layer might not be there...

As to you these two cant be purge....
Its been like that since r10... as far as i can remember.. :o

Create a second Layout in your template file with lines drawn (in paperspace) on all the layers you wish to keep.
They can only be purged if the user deletes the layout or deletes them from it. You can name it something like "Reference" or "Dont-Delete".
If it's an existing drawing, insert new layout from the template and all the "reserved" layer lines will come with it.
