View Full Version : Dim style w/ backward dim text?

Hi all. This may be a program hiccup but I'm going to ask anyway. Has anyone come across a dim style with backward dimension text? I know it can be done when you change the UCS but is it possible to create a dim style and see the backward text in the dimension style manager? This came up in a fellow drafters drawing and we can't figure out how it happened.
I thought mtext couldn't be displayed as backwards in a dim style but could be made to look backwards when the UCS is changed.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Regards, Vivian

Hi Vivian,
did you examine the textstyle?
Can you upload a dwg with one Dimension?

Did you check mirrtext? oh wait that's only for mirroring, nevermind

Hi Lothar,
Thank you for replying.
I will try to get a copy of the file. The fellow drafter works for another company so it may take a day or so. I thought, maybe, someone had come across this one before.

Hi jimithing,

Hi NukeCad,
Thanks for the input.
I'll check on the text rotation. Maybe they used a different style for dimensions because there was no mention of the rest of the text being backwards.

Hi NukeCad,
This might seem a little elementary but, could you clarify where I can rotate the text. I changed mirrtext to 1 and changed the text (180) in the dim properties box but it just made it upside down.
Thank you.

No problem.

Look at both the mirror and rotate NOT in the dimension properties box but in the textstyle box.

As I recall when I came across this before it was in Lt2000, you havnt said here which version is giving this problem.

Hi NukeCad,
First thing - the version is 2007.
Next thing - I created a new text style using simplex with both backwards and upsidedown clicked on. Then I created a new dim style using the new text style, Mirrtext = 1.
The dimension style manager still shows the text as "normal like this" and the dimensions come out "normal" unless I change the UCS to -x,y.
Am I missing something?

Why have you got the UCS on minus x ??

Hi NukeCad,
So far, having the UCS with a -x setting is the only way I can replicate the backward text in dimensions. Without it, it still comes out reading forward.

You are confusing me now

Are you trying to make your dim text backwards or trying to stop it being backwards???

Hi NukeCad,
Confusion is me most days anyway.

I'm trying to stop it by replicating it because I don't have his file. Yet.

I can make the dim text go backwards by having a -x in the UCS but I can't make a dim style with backwards text that appears as such in the dimension style manager.

I'm helping a colleague who may have a hiccup in his file/program/computer. But's it there and I'm trying to help him. So, here I am with a SOS to this forum.

Regards, Vivian (confused ;))

Sorry I have not been back, been off work all day.

As I said I have seen this before, about a year ago, with some third party drawings and am trying to remember how we sorted it out.

Im prety sure it was to do with the font and effects as set in the textstyle dialogue and then modifying the dimstyle to use the changed textstyle.

Ill play about some more to see if I can recreate it - or even better can you attach one of the drawings in 2000 .dwg format so we can have a play with that?

Hi NukeCad,
No problem. I'm just starting my day and we seem to be about 11 hours apart. I appreciate all the time you and the rest of AE are putting into this.
I haven't received my colleagues file yet but I will forward it as soon as I get it.
I tried creating a backward textstyle and putting it in a new dim style. But ACAD won't allow mtext to be backwards in dimensions. At least that's what I've read. But if it happened then there must be a reason. Yes?

By the way, what happened to the gurney face.

The gurn was just for Crab Fair.

Later tonight or tomorrow I will be putting a photo of myself there, I just have to resize it to an avatar. (the resize programe is on a different computer).

I wont be gurning but you may not notice the difference.:thspitcoffee:

Just read your last post again - Mtext in the dimensions may be the problem; we normally use single line text with formating characters to get more than one line (slash-X slash-P etc).

I would realy like to have a look at the dimensions on the drawing if you could attach it.
But I only have 2000i at home; if you attach a later version I wont be able to look at it until I get to work next Monday

Hi NukeCad,
To date, I still haven't received the file. But I'll post it as soon as I get it. Meanwhile, have a good weekend if I don't get it by tomorrow.

Crab Fair? Sounds yummy! Did you place in the gurning? ;)

Good Morning all!
My apologies for a much todo about nothing. MY colleague went back to the file and all is well again. And it's not even full moon yet.
My Thanks to you all for your input and I leave you today with my 2-cents for ACAD 2009. If you're want to see both classic ACAD and the new ribbon interface - Save your profile first (just in case). With your toolbars in place, type _RIBBON. Now you got both. And you can minimize the ribbon to tabs to get it out of the way and still access it quickly. Maybe this is 5-cents. Inflation.

Hi NukeCad, what kind of beer are you drinking to get all that hair so fast?!
