I AM CURRENTLY USING RELEASE 14 AND HAVE JUST UPDATED TO 2000i.
I HAVE CREATED A LOT OF WALLS IN RELEASE 14 AND WOULD HATE TO JUST GIVE THEM UP, OR HAVE TO CREATE THEM ALL OVER AGAIN, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO COPY MY OLD WALLS OVER SOMEHOW?
THANKS

Hi,
for getting more help i think you should describe how you've been using the walls in R14: Are your walls linetyps or blocks or shapes or something else? Where are the walls defined? In a template drawing? Or are they drawn using some lips routins?
If you post some informations like this it would be possible to get the right answer

Thanks for helping bob, our walls are drawn as individual lines and are saved into the AutoCad computer library, they are not polylines or blocks (which I think 2000i uses).
When I load a R14 drawing into 2000i that contains the walls is does not recognize or load them.
Hopefully this is enough info, please tell if we need more.
Thanks.[/list]

Sorry i dont know what you mean with "AutoCAD computer library". AFAIK in AutoCAD 14 the only possibility to store data is in the drawing file. And all you see and you can store must be some AutoCAD entities as polylines, blocks, text, lines, hatches etc.
Maybe you can post one of the R14-Drawings + a scrennshot how it should look like as jpeg?
Or is there some other who can give more help then i?

Could they be "mlines"(multi-lines)?
If so, might look into which files is used to customize these set of lines.
Not sure ... :?:
Bob ... take it away.
(Just taking a stab here....)

The walls are saved in a "template". Shouldn't Autocad load these for me if I'm updating/upgrading.

TOO! funny .... :P
... take it away ... meant ... proceed with your advise, based on my input about the "MLINES".
.. taking a stab ... meant ... I'm just guessing, it's MLINES ....
Anyway :D
I2PRICE,
You say the walls are in a template.
Find where the template "CADfile" is stored for AutoCAD 14.
Now copy the CADfile into the "SUPPORT" directory for AutoCAD 2000.
Rename the CADfile as ACAD.DWT.
Your walls should now come up when you start a new file.
Hope that helps.

architect: How does he access these walls? Are they blocks, or? I guess I'm a little dense about this.
By the way, what happened to the kitty with the rifle?

Funny :P
I got tried of "Sniper Kitty" and posted my "Chow Chow". 8)
************************************************** **
Anyway, in AutoCAD 14 (if I remember correctly) the file "ACAD.DWG" can have graphics like blocks or pre-set layers ....
If one puts all these elements and "pre-set" system variables and then names the CAD file "ACAD.DWG" ... then everytime you start a new file ... all these elements appear automatically in your NEW drawing.
Based on the above description of these walls ... it would seem that they are either blocks and/ or layers that appear automatically.
The word "template" gave the clue that this might be the setup.
There are other ways, but without actually seeing how his AutoCAD opens up ... I'm still guessing here. :?:
Now if he finds this "ACAD.DWG" file and sees his walls, then I'm right.
And the equivalent procedure would be to rename the file to "ACAD.DWT" and place it in the"SUPPORT" directory.
Another route/ option to pre-set layers, variables, etc.... would be to run a LISP. And this can be in some outside script ... outside of AutoCAD or the LISP could be run from a customized menu.
Of course the simplest way would be to just place your preferences in the ACAD.DWG and "call it a day".
Hope that long winded explanation does it .... sorry in advance. :?

Sorry If I'm comming off as really stupid but I'm gonna try and explain this again a little more detailed.....hopefully.
When we first set up our walls in Release 14, I clicked "Walls" from the toolbar and then chose "Wall Library". I then proceeded to edit a pre-existing wall that came with R14 (SIDE3-1/2) with the "Edit" option that leads to the Wall Style Editor. I did this until I had made all the walls I needed for our purposes.
Now when I insert these walls, they actually insert as seperate lines, but still a wall, not a block or any form of polyline or mline.
I have tried the Wall Style editor in 2000i but it does not seem to have as many options as the R14 did. I also don't see anywhere I could load my previous walls, and if I could, I wouldn't know where to find the old walls.
Whew, hope that helps. (or at least doesn't run anyone off...)
Thanks again for all your help.

I dont know a "wall" command in AutoCAD, neither R14 nor 2000 or later. (What not nessecary means that it doesnt exist  ). I would think it is a thrid party application you've used.
How is the name of the command started in the commandline when you click the icon "wall" in your toolbar (and in wicht toolbar is it)?

architect: Thanks for taking the time to reply. I learned a little something from your explanation. Most folks I deal with on CADD issues are a long ways from setting up template files.
Sorta liked sniper kitty; recently my old orange kitty had to go to kitty heaven and I miss him. He was 13 and had a stroke. I liked the pix you had up there.

Well guy (I2price),
it sounds like you have either a custom menu ... that someone made ....
or ... you have an "ADD-ON" (3rd party) software to AutoCAD.
Without being there to take apart the toolbar or follow the "life line" of the toolbar to the source ... I can't tell ya what to copy over.
The bright side of things is .... it should be doable to copy your wall Library to AutoCAD 2000.
Can I ask who's your tech support overthere?
Who installed AutoCAD 14 on your machine?
Who maintains the network?
One of these or one person should be the able to figure this out and copy it over to A2K.
Sorry guy. .... I couldn't be more helpful.

I believe we might be using "Softdesk 8 AEC Solutions: Architectural" alongside with R14. I have been told that in the newer versions of Autocad they have bought each other out and are the same program now. Maybe that will help some...?

It sounds to me as if you're using an architectural addon such as ADT
Is this correct ?
It's the only other possibilty for you to have wall styles.....
Can you confirm this I2PRICE

By "ADT" would you mean Architectural Desktop?
