AutoCAD 2009 - Does anyone know how to add a tag or label to an entity so that when the crosshairs pass over it, it will display the label, like the quick properties box. For example I have 5 lines, each one represents a pipe, P1 P2 P3 etc.. I would like that name to appear at the crosshairs when I pass over the specific line.. Can anyone help, I've spent hours going thru the help, but can't find out. Thanks

OK...

After some looking around...

The "tool Tips" pop up you refer to ... are emmbeded in the AutoCAD program....

What you want to do... i believe
i might be wrong... (someone correct me -here)
but i believe requires a database link...

The pop-up tool tips are written into AutoCAD. and there's a switch/ variable that turns them on ... and always off to the upper right hand corner..
they're just invisbile.... or OFF... unitl you switch them on..

so...
what you describe would have to be there too .. except in invisible mode until you want it on...

Without going thru the efforts of making a new database.. and library of elements... (which is REVIT or ADT or some other form of database software)... I would think ... making DYNAMIC blocks with invisble attributes... would be the way to go...

Does that work for you?

Is that what you want.... or meant?

Let me know if I'm wrong.

Thank you so much for your response to my question, it may take me a coupla days to digest your advice concerning the the database route. I will let you know.

The closest I came to getting what I need is using the rollover tooltips, having the entity as a dynamic block with an attribute that displays on the r/o-t/t and using the cui to shut off all the other fields so they don't display. It's not exacly what I want because the words Block Reference still shows (which I don't want, and the hyper-link path and tooltip show as well (which I also don't want)), perhaps I'm being to fussy. So I'll explore your database suggestion this weekend.

So while we are on the subject of hyperlinks, perhaps I may prevail one more time on your helpful nature for advice on attaching multiple hyperlinks to a single element. I have tried manually typing multiple entries in the properties box, using different separators, but that doesn't work. Maybe you know something offhand? I have developed a workaround for the problem by setting multiple environments from the ribbon tabs and panels, and copying the lines to multiple layers with the panels setting environments that shut off the layers with the hyperlinks I don't need. But it seems like there must be a better way. If you have any ideas or a simple way to do this, I'd be grateful to hear them

All the best ... Joseph

WOW - you took it farther w/ the CUI edit...

Yeah .. i would think that's as good as its gonna get... (W/out the database link)

I'll look into your second question... or maybe someone else will jump in here and offer tips too..

:)

Later...

Thanks again, as for my second question, please don't bother wasting any of your time on it, I just thought I'd ask you if anything comes to mind or if you've run into it before. My work around works OK, I was just being lazy and checking if there might be an easier way. Besides, you seem to be at the top of the food chain here, so if it doesn't immediately spring to YOUR mind, it probably can't be done. So thanks again
