Webmaster,
When you do the upgrade of the forum, could you please consider the ability to edit posts on a permanent basis (time wise).
I quite often post an answer, then after a bit of thinking about what I said, I would love to get back to that post to further clarify points for better understanding. I know I can post again for a correction.....but just doesn't seem to be the same. :)

I like the timeout feature. It keeps people from going back and editing or deleting what they've written.
Recently, on another forum, a guy came in and was asking for a keygen. We told him that we don't condone the use of illegal software and he should go elsewhere if that's what he's looking for. So he went back and removed the keygen part and started claiming that he never said that. Then he edited his post again to make it read totally different. Then he came back a third time and completely deleted everything he had written.
I've also seen members who will write something really nasty or offensive in response to another member. They will leave their post up just long enough for the other member to see it, then they go back and edit out the bad stuff and pretend like they never wrote it. (I think Alan probably knows who I'm talking about).
If you've written something incorrect or you want to add to your post, you can always just post again.

Wow...Cad..I know exactly who you are talking about. And what you are saying is so exactly correct. But...I prefer that people like you and I are so fast there to counter that crap.
And that is why I know Liekins will never come here.....and why he has never gone any further than registering at the swamp.
You and I both know he can get away with that nonsense at CadTutor.......but not at theSwamp or here.
As for a time out feature...you know damn well I don't want it for the greater reasons of my new home. I am a genuine user who has a lot to offer....I hope. No one will get away with that nonsense here. I will guarantee it. But...in the interests of better understanding of our job...I reserve the right to request the ability to modify my posts to suit any change I suddenly think of.
so how about coming on board with me.......for the greater benefit of this forum?
If there are enough of us here....no LE will ever penetrate us.

Well, I will of course back whatever decision is made by the higher ups, but I do like the timeout feature, (If for no other reason than just keeping people honest). The only change I would suggest would be to allow a longer time period in which to make changes. Before I became a Mod, I remember facing this same issue. There were times when I would post something and then think about it for a few minutes and realize I needed to add to what I had written, but by the time I got back it was already too late and I had to post again.
As for our troublemaker friend, I haven't seen him for several months. He seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Good riddance I say.

well well well...the person who caused all the problems. Never mind.
Cad, I understand where you are coming from. Mate, you and I were both involved in the FAQ to a degree. My point is that it would take me probably two days to get a good response to an answer for a potential FAQ response.....I reserve the right to be able to come back and modify my response based on what I further found out about the correct answer to my original response based on acuracy of data.
I'll say no more...except that the demise of LE is very nice news. So how's Tiger taking that?

I'm not copying anything from here to another forum.
However I have a situation...what I have written for an FAQ on another forum is my intellectual property. and I believe that as such, untill such time as those FAQs have been reviewed, processed, modified and published on that forum, then I can do with them what I like.
This forum is my new home.....and I intend to publish those FAQs here as and when I see fit. Also the time taken to process those FAQs at the other forum...I left so many of them there...it will take them another 2 years to process them.
I have them all in word documents on my home computer.
I think Cad will understand my thinking and feelings here.

No editing posts. I feel it makes people actually think more so carefully before hitting the "POST" button. Hold 'em accountable by not allowing them to "Take it Back". Cad64 says it best. He hit the nail on the head!

I personaly find it a little unethical for a mod to moderate their own post, or threads that they are personally involved in!

Mods dont moderate their own posts.
That is why there is more than one moderator.
Qui custodies les custodients?

I have to say something here...if I am allowed...which I am.
Cad's reasons for a timed response are very valib. And I do accept that. In fact I accept it more than most of you can even imagion.
Another forum...which we were both part of, worked on the basis of your post count only working if you contributed to a "technical" thread. In other words.......chat away as hard and as fast as you wanted, but only technical responses counted towards post count. Something I totally agreed with.
I would like that, just say moderators can edit if and when required....and selected members can also do likewise...if those selected members can prove that they can do so without predudice. Cad will be the first to agree with this.........I think....
I won't let this die yet....I believe I have earnt the right (maybe not here)...as has Cad to be able to come back at any point or time and modify my post....just to make clarification make sense. I do not like having to post again and again...just to get a post count up. Also buggars up the original post.

Yes But Architech I know you think I'm some Granola Crunching Tree Hugging West Coast Hippie . but the Evil UBER Right Wing White Christian Conservative Male in me Has to Remind one self that we are Just Guests in this sand box Before we start Screaming about our "ENTITLEMENTS" or our "Rights" or some other Left Wing Clap Trap! This Forum has been a valuable resource, and as a capitalist American PIG dog I Know there is no Free lunch, and if the price for a valued Resource is to Mind ones Manners and play by the sand boxes rules, what ever they may be, then so be it. as long as any one sticks around the rules and actions of anyone can not be so unreasonable. The true Value of anything be it a car or a resource is determined by what one is willing to pay! and as long as we are here we are accepting the actions of the mods as reasonable for the value we gain from the forum! One may disagree with the action or Opinion of a mod, but as long as one stays around the action or opinion of the mod is not to unreasonable!

Well, the verdict is in. They decided not to go for it. They thought a timeout feature would cause more problems than it would solve.

And here I was...just started this thread in all honesty...never thought it would cause so much trouble.
I wish to apologise to everyone. I will post twice...three, four times now, but who am I to object to that?
Obviously, it caused a lot of thought....and I have to agree with Cad's thoughts on this.

... so you're saying you changed your mind... when you started this thread... which was to have... the edit button available 24/7... instead of the small window to change the post....

which it is right now... which CAD64 likes...

(its just at another board... that they wont accept the same policies here...)

You got it right, I still like the timeout feature, but when I mentioned it on another board, they decided against it. They thought it would just create more problems.
