Does anyone know whether or not 2005 has any inherent differences in the software compared to 2002? Are there compatability issues between the platforms, or are the platforms the same? Will I have trouble updating half of the machines in my office to 2005 while keeping the other half 2002? Will file sharing be a problem? Will I be able to quick save in 2005 and open the same drawing in 2002? Are there specific block definitions or other drawing specific items that will pose conflicts or problems with file sharing? Any information regarding the updated software will be helpful. Please be as general or as specific as you want when replying to this post. Thanks everyone and have a good day.

Pretty much you'll need to keep to sets of "SUPPORT" files between the 2, if you intend to use both in house.

For example:
2 sets of "PC3" files
2 sets of Menu files, if you have custom ones
2 sets of PROFILES, if you use these

As for the files, you can set 2004 to save to 2000 and your use between platforms sould be OK, although XREFs may be an issue.

This is in terms of .....

1 machine has a "file" open in AutoCAD 2004. The file open has an XREF.

That XREF file is opened on a machine in AutoCAD 2002.

[Back to the AutoCAD 2004 machine]
The AutoCAD 2004 file ... as it opens ... may display error messages, because 1 or more of the XREFs arebeing used in AutoCAD 2002.

Very annoying to see & unknown conditions of the file ... in the long run.
Corruption may be an issue ... but unknown.

We are in the process of seeing some of these arise.
