Draw two parallel lines and click on the Fillet command, click near the ends of each line (same end) and a semi-circle (arc) will be drawn

Or you could just use the "Fillet" option of the RECTANGLE command. Then as you draw your rectangle, the fillet is automatically applied.
Command: RECTANGLE
Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: F
Specify fillet radius for rectangles <0.0000>: .5
Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: (Pick Starting Point for Rectangle on Screen)
Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: @2.,1.
I think these options are only available in Autocad 2006 and up though.

No....they were always in there at least as far as R13. You have to remember to to add the radius times two to the rectangle.
I've always thought it was a pain.
I'd rather draw the circle, copy it to the next center, draw two lines, use the trim command, just enter, which selects all & trim, trim.
It's less confusing. If I liked that method I would have been using it right along. I don't think it's a timesaver.
I don't care for it & it's not new.

 You sound a little angry there tinsmith, what's up?
I thought this was the area to post tips?
What I posted was a tip.
The OP posted one method and I posted an alternate method. I didn't say it was the best way or that everyone has to do it this way. It's just another quick way to make a slot. You may not care for it, but someone else might think it's great. Most new users don't pay attention to their command line, so many people may not know those options even exist.
Here's another tip:
Draw a rectangle, again using my previous dimensions of 2.,1., then initiate the FILLET command. Type R for Radius and enter .5. Now type P for Polyline and select the Rectangle. All corners of the rectangle will fillet to create the afore mentioned slot.
Command: RECTANGLE
Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: Click to Place Start Point on Screen
Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: @2.,1.
Command: FILLET
Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]: R
Specify fillet radius <0'-0">: .5
Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]: P
Select 2D polyline: Select Rectangle on Screen
4 lines were filleted
There are many different ways to do everything in Autocad, so use the technique that works best for you.
And as far as those options being available in older versions, I did a little research and found that you are right, they are available. I don't have any earlier versions than 2006 to test on and I couldn't remember if those options were available or not. But it seems they are, so there you go.

:
I'm not angry at all Cad64. I'm glad to see a place to post tips & I apologize if I seemed hostile.
I guess I forget, some people are just starting & don't know or remember these tips yet. I remember that back from college. A lot of things I learned at college I don't use in the real world; some I do. There's at least three ways of doing everything, as I was once told.
I'd just like to see tips which are a little higher up on the food chain.
I think the best thing, for me is the old adage," Don't say anything it you don't have anything good to say." So at that note, I'll just zip my lip.
Again, I apologize.

Now go and write 5000 times..
I won't say anything at all if I don't have anything good to say.
Which basically means that I need to ban myself AND learn BABY sign language (they don;t sign bad words) :thspitcoffee:
We all get bad CADitudes...:)

Is that pkzipLIP or winzipLIP that you use. Can I get a copy? I've been told I can't zip it.
