I am dimensioning in paper space. Sometimes as long as I pick points within the view port, no matter the scale, dimensions are correct. At other times, with the same page setup the dimensions are incorrect. I can not see that there is any difference in the drawing files, does anyone understand this?

What do mean dimension are incorrect...in the way it's measured what's being dimensioned ???
Is this happening when using the exact same dimension style

Same dimension style, full scale. In one drawing file with viewports at 3/4" and 3" scale I can dimension a 12" beam in either view port and it will dimension as 1'-0". In another drawing file, same dimension style, in paper space with a 1/4" scale viewport. I dimension the same 12" beam and it will dimension as 1/4". The page setup appears to be the same in both drawing files yet the dimensioning in paper space is different.

Check your Dimstyle in both drawings. Open the Dimension Style Manager and go to the "Primary Units" tab. In the "Measurement Scale" section, make sure the "Scale Factor" is set to 1.0 in both drawings.

I found the answer finally. It is in the Change Properties pull down. Where you set the scale for the view port, typcally done in the standard scale options. If you set the custom scale option to a ratio of full scale to view port scale you can dimension in paper space. For instance if you set a 3/4" scaled view port to 1:16 or a 3" scaled view port to 1:4 on the custom scale options you can dimension them in paper space and get the correct dimension. Unfortunately there is no option for a 1/4" scaled view port which would require a 1:48 option.

Sorry there is a little misdirection in the previous reply. All selections are made with the Standard Scale options. Changing the Custom Scale option does not seem to make any difference.

sounds like you have 2 scale factors....

Try turning off the DIMASSOC to 1
instead of 2 .....
This should stop the problem.....

NOTE:
Your dims will not automatically update....
You will need to place them again.... :080402gud
