When I draw a horizontal line(with ortho on), the line disappears when I hit ENTER. If I continue the Line vertically, the vertical line will only show up on the screen. Also, if I draw a rectangle, the bottom horizontal line will not show up. If I regen or zoom, the hidden lines will appear. Also I found if I hit the LWT button, the line(s) will appear. Once the lines are showing, they won't disappear again. Only the on-going operations do this. I've tried to uninstall and re-installl Acad2000, but it didn't help. Any Suggestions? Thanks

What color is it?
It could be a dark color that bends with your "background color".
Do a list on the lines.
If that ain't it, "wblock" the file out and open that new DWG.
See if it occurs there.
If none of these work, sorry in advance. :?

This is happening to any new drawing, using layer 0. It will also do it on acad's sample drawings. Although sometimes it won't do it if I use a drawing from my other computer or insert an existing drawing. Then, new horizontal lines look double wide, but are actually 1 line. Maybe, it's something to do with this computer, but both have Windows 98. Any other suggestions? I may not have done a "full" install when I loaded onto this computer - rather I did the normal install. But this still shouldn't be happening. Thanks for your help.

OK, I'll try another re-install. Should I delete the acad2000 folder from the program files(or any others) before i re-install?

Please answer Ed's question.
But to answer your question about installation.
Uninstall your ACAD, if there's a folder still on computer after your "uninstallment", .... then "YES" delete that folder.
Then re-install as YosSa suggested.
However, it sounds like a variable or video card conflict since the problem only occurs on paricular files and/ or on a certain machine.
Post back here w/ your results. :?

Yes, I'm working with an "on" layer. Even on a new dwg on the 0 layer this happens.
When I uninstalled the program, an acad 2000 folder(under Program Files) still exists with files in some of the folders. The un-install shield did mention that there are some files that needed to be removed manually to completely uninstall. However, there is also an autodesk folder in the Common Files folder. For now, I'll just try removing the 2000 folder. thanks. I'll let you know what happens.

Well, I tried to reinstall the program and the same thing is still happening. I deleted the acad2000 folder from the Program Files prior to reinstall.
YosSa, I thought the un-install program clears the register. Otherwise, I'm not sure how to do this.
One other thing, I didn't delete the autodesk folder under Progam Common files, since I'm not sure if this would effect other programs. This folder contains about 60 files, most of them are .dll.
I even tried to stop all other programs from running and only use acad, but no difference. Then, in msconfig, I did a normal startup with all programs. Again, no difference. Even when I offset a horizontal line, the original line disappears when I offset upwards. Offsetting downwards, the new line does not show. The lines will appear when I regen, or hit the LWT button. Pretty strange - isn't it!
I'm not sure what to try next tomorrow. thanks

Well KT277, you have a nasty problem .. :!: :!:
Some more solutions:
- Try the _vpoint command and make a 3D view. Look if the lines show up here.
- Remove the whole sh*t, and rename youre autodesk directory. if things dont work right after re-installation, de-install again and rename youre autodesk folder back.
- Remove autocad, start regedit.exe from youre windows directory and search (F3) for AutoCAD. Delete all. Worste what can happen is to re-install youre machine completely (ghost disk :?: ).
- Install youre latest video drivers.
- Post the drawing, lets see if it works good here.

YosSa,
You've given me quite a list to try!
After uninstalling and re-installing, I have a feeling that it may be computer related. Maybe I can start with the video card like the architect and you suggested. But even there, I'm still an amature dealing with computer problems. Everything else seems to be working OK. Although some web sites I visit, some text will be superimposed on top of orthe text. Also, on this sites Home Page, there is an x in the upper left corner of a box where a picture should be. Is this a video card problem?
I'll try this tomorrow and let you know.

the most simple way is just to install the newest drivers !!

I went to the Device manager under system information and my display adapter(video card) is a Diamond Viper V330. Diamond multimedia, as I tried before, is no longer in business. When I received this computer last year, the hard drive was wiped clean and Windows 98 reinstalled. However, they forgot to save the drivers. I think I downloaded this driver from drivers.com. Seemed to be working ok. I don't know how to update this driver.
Anyway, I went to the Graphics... under the Performance tab, and slid the hardware accelerator down 2 notches. After restart, back in acad - my horizontal lines are showing correctly!
Thanks for your help steering me toward the video card. Do I need a new video card or look for another driver? Moving the hardware accelerator down, mentions that it will correct problems with programs. Is the acad program at fault, or the video driver? Thanks again.

:?: Inquery.......when doing a reinstall did you have virus software running ??
This can sometimes interfere with installations by not allowing clean access to registry.....if you do re-install try disabling your virus software before the installation begins.

Eddie,
Yes, I had the Norton AV disabled during re-install.
Now, with the hardware accelerator down 2 notches, the horizontal lines are showing up correctly. But, I still should resolve the video card/driver problem.
Thanks all for your help. It sure was a perplexing problem for awhile.
