hello,

i'm new to autocad 2006 (just recieved a job as an engineering assistant). i'm slowly getting the hang of the program, but i can't figure a couple very simple things out:

1. the environment size is too small for the project i need to do. how can i expand it out more?
2. how can i scale my project to 1/8" = 1'?
3. on the older autocad 14 version, my boss could draw a line and type in, say, 8'7" and the line would be that long. I can only enter as inches, so i need to write 103 to get the same effect. how can i make autocad accept architectural lengths?
4. is there any way to make autocad show line weights in the environment view?

thank you for your help.

Q1: Don't know but someone else does.

Q2: Draw in model space at 1:1; switch tp paperspace, scale a viewport to a scale factor of 1/96XP. You're view of your work in that viewport will be "scaled" to 1/8"=1'-0" (scale factor 1:96).

Q3: You need to change your UNITS to architectural instead of decimal. Architectural Units will accept either 8'7 or 103 as command line input.

Q4: Don't know but someone else does.

Q1:
The environment ... I'm assuming you mean the drawing space ... if so ... move any toolbars from the side to the TOP or BOTTOM.
You may need to also punch up your resolution in WINDOWS.

Q4:
LWDISPLAY
set to 1

But this means to set the lineweight in the layers dialog box.

Although most still prefer to use colors/ CTB files to produce lneweights .... but these can't be seen on screen.
