:?: I am using Acad 97 LT but I dont think that is my problem. I can not figure out how to open a .pat file in autocad. I am simply trying to find a simple wood grain hatch and a simple stone hatch and finely found some straight from the vendors but can not open it as a pattern. I can read it in notebook but only see the words and no drawing. What do I do?? I have spent hours on this already.

You need to open the WOOD.PAT file in NOTEPAD.
And open the ACAD.PAT file in NOTEPAD.
Now copy the WOOD.PAT into ACAD.PAT ... adddd at the end of the file.
Now save the ACAD.PAT wherever it is ....
(Chances are its in c:\autocad\support... or something like that )
Now go into AutoCAD LT and make a 12"x12" square and hatch it ...
You should be able to pick the new WOOD hatch ... but it might be missing a picture (slide) of the wood.
If your LT was a higher version .... AutoCAD would make the slide automatically. I think 97 requires you to make a SLD file. Where you then add it to the ACAD.SLB
Anyway ...
Hatch the square and should be able to see the new hatch. May need to play with the scale ....
And if you don't like it delete the PAT code out of the ACAD.PAT file.
BUT
BUT before you start any of these ...
BACKUP
BACKUP
Your ACAD.PAT file .. just in case.
Good luck. 8)
