I have a predicament............
Tony had mentioned his vacation last week (did you have a nice relaxing time??????) - my son & I are actually taking a week's vacation ourselves next week. We'll be spending the week on a lake, where "curlyhead" wants to fish. That's where Tami has a problem. I don't like touching worms, but I'll get over that - my problem will be when he catches fish.........what am I supposed to do with them once he catches them??????????? I'm NOT touching them!!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions or instructions from you boys? I'm sure there's a fisherman out there somewhere.........

I have to KILL the fish?????????? You mean, they don't die on their own???????

:? Remove the fishhook? Um - ok, maybe we're not going to go fishing next week.........unless one of you WONDERFUL MEN wants to go with us to do this fish-killing, fishhook removing stuff (hey, don't you have to take their skin off, too, or something?). :|

Oh yes, & you may wander around the lake like tourists with us!

The vacation was nice and relaxing. The views were spectacular, as soon as I get some pictures off my home computer I'll post a few here.

Read the Unhooking and Handling and Releasing portions.

You'll need a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the hook. If you break its jaw taking the hook out, you should probably eat it, because it wont be able to eat.
Then you do this:

VCD - I can't wait to see the pics from your trip! I do have a question, though - I'm supposed to eat the hook if the fish's jaw breaks??????? :? Wouldn't that hurt to swallow?! I know I have a pair of needlenose pliers, so we'll take those - I still don't think I can take scales & fins & skin off a fish, though.

Hendie - MAGGOTS??!!!!!!!!!! Nasty!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eddie - thanks for believing in me, but I still don't think I can do this on my own.

I still think one of you should head down to the lake with us.............of course, I looked for curlyhead's tackle this morning & I can't find it. I think it's still in a box somewhere...........so maybe he won't be fishing after all!

Let me try that again; In the event that any of a fish's jaw bones (bones that form the structure of a mouth) are broken during the removal of an angler's hook, a fish will no longer be able to feed itself, and (if released) will eventually die of starvation. Etiquette dictates that the angler inflicting this injury keep and consume the injured fish. :P

By the way... you don't have to use live bait. Just go to Walmart and buy a small kit full of jigs and spoons, that is, if you're fishing from the shore.

 I should have been born a blonde (no offense to anyone), I'm telling y'all! I know what a jaw is, silly - I just misread the whole hook thing, breaking the jaw of the fish & eating the FISH........not the hook. Got it now.........

a small kit full of jigs and spoons,
Spoons, as in plastic spoons? :?: How can you fish with spoons? :? What about corn - I'd heard that munchkin could use corn as bait? Is that true?

:|
Maybe I need to take some fishing classes....or maybe I should've had another girl....I don't understand all of this stuff! I do know how to change a tire & check my oil, though! Do those count for anything? OH! I have a drill at home, too - I sorta know how to use it.........

Spoon fishing is where you lay next to the fish and cuddle with it until you can talk it into going home with you.

Maybe you shouldn't be doing something as complicated as fishing... maybe you should just throw rocks in the general direction of the lake. If you hit the water with the rock, the water will splash.

:P
:D

How to fish.

I think I'm finally understanding some of this fishing stuff. And y'all want to hear something ironic? At camp last night, that's just what the boys did - learned to fish & went fishing. Nice, huh? I now have a better idea of what you guys have been trying to get across to me. I'm still not sure that I'm going to clean any fish, but I will let munchkin fish. In fact, last night, I guess he caught 5 bluegill! He released them, as they were at a catch & release lake, but I thought that was pretty cool. He used corn as bait! Then, on the way home last night, he tells me that he needs a bigger fishing pole before Mon. Great - more money I don't have. I now have another question for y'all - since he's only 9, would one of the cheapy ones at WalMart be ok for him? It seems that he's now outgrown the Scooby Doo pole.........
OH! He also got a flourescent yellow squid bait thingy - lure? I think that's what it's called - it's pretty cool!

I think I'll try the "rock" fishing that Eddie suggested, though - I'll let y'all know how that works out for me.........

As for that whole "spoon" idea...........I'll try that at a later time..........& not on any fish............
